It means everything to my family, and we are so happy to create this space for White Rock, our Version :)Ī Walk to Remember is a coming of age romantic drama based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. I want to thank all of y'all for supporting us. Think about small businesses and the people in your community behind them. When I go to El Vecino, the owner takes me to my table. I know Cristin Caulfied of Caulfield's Dance Fitness, Peter and Cheryl of Lochland's, John Terlingo of Terlingo Cycle. ![]() It's risky and stressful, but I would much rather go to a studio like ours or a few others around Dallas where I know the owner instead of Soul Cycle or Equinox, two companies that have been bought and sold and exist as just two of a full portfolio of companies owned by a large PE firm. Thus far it's been an investment, but at some point if there is a return, it will go to us. The creative output of my studio goes directly to our family. My wife owns Offbeat, and we are a family business. It's the nature of the business.īut now I am an entrepreneur. Then again, I never would have gotten the work if I didn't work for the consulting company. Though I took a much bigger share of my creative output than most musical artists, it was still only about 20% of what my company billed the client. It's a deal with the devil artists have had issues with for ages.īefore Offbeat, I was a management consultant. But she had to sacrifice ownership of her own creative output. She needed them at the time when she signed to become what she is today. With the re-release, which includes the "mythical" ten minute version (I'm playing it in my T Swift theme ride today at noon actually!), the meaning can easily be construed as remembering all too well her relationship with Big Machine Records. At the time of the release of Red, one of the most critically acclaimed tracks on the album, All Too Well, was purportedly about a break up with Jake Gyllenhall. From the beginning, she exercised an outsized level of control over her product. Taylor has always been as shrewd of a business woman as she is talented of a songwriter. So she is re-recording and re-releasing them under her own label so that she owns them. ![]() If you don't know, basically, Taylor does not own her original recordings because that's how the music industry works. Which is partially why the re-release of Red today is interesting to me. I had also just started law school and was wrestling with Common Law concepts of ownership in my 1L doctrinal Property course. I am also a big EDM fan, so when I heard "I Knew You Were Trouble", one of the bangers with some electronic beats, I lost my mind. I'm a Swiftie, so I remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and what I was doing when I first listened to it. Plank you very much for reading, have a wonderful Turkey day!Ībout 9 years ago on October 22, 2012, Taylor Swift released the album "Red". And since working out is still what we do here, I call it Planksgiving. She will share more details on the wall, but it's a chance to focus in for a second and make the workout more meaningful. ![]() Our studio is all about the mental health aspects of exercise, and fortunately mental health is a passion shared by our Marketing and Communications manager, Sam. So we are going to hop on board the giving thanks train with a gratitude wall next week. ![]() It makes sense that the show would make its mark with Thanksgiving episodes and not another holiday. It's so sweet and hilarious, it's quintessential Friends. In another one, Chandler accidentally tells Monica he loves her for the first time when she has a turkey on her head. All of the best episodes are Thanksgiving episodes! What about the one with the Geller Cup? Best episode of all time. Best traditions ever!Īlso, my favorite television show of all time by far is Friends. Then I go put on an eating display before falling asleep to the Cowboys game. As a kid, I would play flag football with my church in the annual Turkey Bowl. It has all the same awesome things, food, football, friends, and family, but without all the stress and with less commercialism. definitely doing that again! Maybe every Third Thursday?).Īnyway, the reason why I didn't want to put up Christmas lights is because I think Thanksgiving is the most underrated holiday, and I hate it when the world starts up Christmas celebrations without giving Thanksgiving it's moment in the spotlight. I didn't want to do either to be honest, but my wife scheduled the guy to come out to our house, and I put up the lights in the boxing room because I needed some cool lighting for our Offbeatz Live DJ night (which was the most fun I've ever had. We also got some up on our house this week. I put up Christmas lights in the boxing room yesterday.
